What are Bee Highways?
Bee Highways are areas planted with the local native plants that pollinators need in order to survive. Native plants provide food and habitat for our declining populations of bees, butterflies, moths, birds, bats and other wildlife. When we plant Bee Highway areas near each other, pollinators are able to raise more young, increase biodiversity, and expand their territory. Since baby birds and other animals depend on caterpillars and insects to survive, Bee Highways are saving our wildlife, right here in the Eden Area.

Why are Bee Highways Important?
Native plants host our wildlife, heal our soil, sequester carbon, save water, cool the land, and offer beauty for all to enjoy. According to ecologist Doug Tallamy, “If you want birds, you need caterpillars, and if you want caterpillars, you need native plants.” Pollinators are a key part of the food web. Insects, like moths, feed more than 80% of birds in the U.S., as well as feeding reptiles, amphibians, and mammals.
